Susan Brown
Blacksburg Rotary Club
Susan Brown was president of our Rotary Club during 2007-2008 year.
Susan was born and raised in Covington in Allegheny County. She attended Virginia Western Community College in Roanoke and has lived for most of her adult life in Roanoke. Her career has been in the construction and real estate industry. In the late 1980s she learned to do title research for real estate properties. She worked for several different attorneys and ran her own title research business in Blacksburg from 1999 until 2006. She now does title research working alone.
She has been married to Roger for 33 years. They have one grown child and two grandchildren and a third on the way.
Susan admitted to having joined the Rotary club for strictly selfish reasons. “I wanted to meet and network with other businesspeople in the area. My business partner at the time was Bo Trumbo, who was a state senator. He encouraged me to become involved in Rotary.
“I absolutely loved Rotary from the very beginning. What started as a selfish motivation ended up cultivating my altruistic side. It makes me feel good within myself to know I am helping others around the world. I have always had a passion for education. It is the only way to achieve success in the world.”
About her tenure as president, she said, “The biggest issue at that time was support for the new stadium for Blacksburg High School. It was not universally popular. But I felt that we had a large enough club to support it monetarily without detracting from our other charitable work. I felt if we could help the youth of the world, we could certainly help the youth in our back yard. We are projected to make our final contribution this year (2010). The things we do across the world our members don’t get a chance to see. This is something we can see the fruits of our efforts.
“Our members are extraordinary. I am proud to know everyone here. When I was asked to be president, I was terrified. But it is a great club and it worked out. Anyone the club asks to be president should do it. It is a rewarding experience.” Back to Past Presidents |
