Kan Martin
Blacksburg Rotary Club
Ken Martin was president of our Rotary Club during 1998-1999 and was a charter member.
Ken's birth place was Jefferson Davis County Mississippi. His parents were farmers. He left the farm to enter college, but never lost his love for the "farm-life". He was active in the local 4-H and FFA programs, receiving his "State Farmer's Degree" from the FFA. He is married to Joyce A. Martin. They have four children and 11 grandchildren.
Ken graduated with honors from Pearl River Junior College (PRC) and the University of Southern Mississippi, receiving his master's degree in business. He taught accounting and business administration at PRC for three years before beginning his Cooperative Extension Service career - 7 years at Mississippi State University and 27 1/2 years at Virginia Tech.
Ken and his wife Joyce are now honorary members of the Rotary Club of Lenoir City, Tennessee. Both are Paul Harris Fellows. Volunteer community service has been a major part of their lives through the 4-H program, their church related activities, the local AARP and Virginia Tech New Dimensions Programs. They have received many honors including the Virginia Tech Alumni Award for Extension Excellence.
My year as president of the Rotary Club of Blacksburg was one of the memorable events in my life. The leadership team was extremely cooperative and worked together to complete a most successful year of service.
