John Skelton
Blacksburg Rotary Club
John Skelton was president of our Rotary club during 1986 – 1987 and was a charter member in 1979.
He was born in Ithaca, New York and grew up in Blacksburg, VA. As a youth, John was active in sports and various clubs including service related ones.
After graduating from Virginia Tech in 1972 with a B.S. in general business, John was employed by the First National Exchange Bank of Virginia in Bristol, VA . He served as a commercial credit analyst and coordinated the management trainee program.
John then continued his education at the University of Georgia and earned a M.B.A. degree. He was an Assistant Professor and Program Head of Banking and Finance at New River Community College in Dublin, VA from 1978-1986.
A Virginia real estate licensee since 1978, John began a full time career as a Realtor and real estate investor in 1986. He is an Associate Broker with Coldwell Banker Townside Realtors in Blacksburg and was the recipient of the Ethics In Action lifetime award by the New River Valley Association of Realtors.
John believes in helping others and giving them an opportunity to better themselves. He values Rotary’s worldwide leadership role in these endeavors and is proud of the naming of 22 new Paul Harris Fellows during his year of presidency. He has served as our district chairman of the Group Study Exchange committee and was the GSE team leader to New South Wales, Australia, District 965(0) in 1987.
