Bob Hoover
Blacksburg Rotary Club
Bob Hoover was president of our Rotary club during 2008 through 2009.
Bob was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and married his high school sweetheart when he was twenty. He has four children and four grandchildren. “All the children and my wife are Hokies!”
He attended Lafayette College in Easton, PA, and has a degree in liberal arts, in history.
He spent 35 years in manufacturing management with the last 26 before retirement with Corning. He retired as vice president of manufacturing with Corning. He was brought to Blacksburg in 1988 to re-open the plant here and was transferred out of Blacksburg in 1994. He worked at the corporate headquarters in Corning, New York for a time but was working for them in Wilmington, North Carolina, at retirement and moved back to Blacksburg in 2004.
Bob was a member of three different Rotary Clubs including ours. He rejoined our club when he retired here.
“This is a good club. When I was president, my primary goal was to maintain our momentum. We were fearful about our continuing revenue streams, thus we initiated the Mardi Gras evening and it was immediately successful. It turns out our revenue for 2008-2009 was outstanding with great membership growth, too.”
He added, “I have always been a member because of the social side, the fellowship. And I enjoy the speakers. In my education to become Rotary local president, I gained a more profound respect for what Rotary does internationally.”
